Surface and Interface Engineering Laboratory (SIEL)

School of Engineering Sciences and Technology, University of Hyderabad

SIEL's goal is to develop surfaces and interfaces using novel, easier, and sustainable methodologies for various applications. Our research includes an intricate understanding of the properties of surfaces and interfaces and their viability for applications.

SIEL is currently involved in developing diamond & Si-B-C-N thin films, various nano carbons (and their composites), and nano-sized metal and metal oxides. SIEL is also involved in the bulk conversion of waste materials (landfill and hazardous materials) into useful materials for various applications.

SIEL's motive is to use the above-mentioned materials in energy conversion, energy storage, H2 generation, mechanical, sensing, bio- and environmental- applications.

SIEL is also interested in the fabrication of small-scale devices related to the above-mentioned applications.

SIEL orients its research to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, 9, 13 and 15.
